Information about refrigerant R410A
R410A has long been the most widely used refrigerant in residential air conditioning systems and small commercial HVAC applications, as well as in heat pumps. It is a blend of two HFC gases (R32 and R125), developed to replace the older R22 refrigerant.

Refrigerant R410A overview
Unlike R407C, R410A is a near-azeotropic blend. This means it behaves similarly to a single-component refrigerant, making servicing easier. In addition, R410A can transfer more heat with a smaller compressor compared to many other refrigerants, enabling more compact system designs.
Typical applications of R410A:
- Air source heat pumps (most residential units installed in the 2010s use this refrigerant)
- Building air conditioning systems
- Water chillers
- Dehumidifiers
Due to its high GWP (2088), the use of R410A in new small air conditioning systems (with a charge below 3 kg) is being phased out.
Alternatives: Largely replaced by R32 in new equipment
Additional information
2025–2029: Virgin refrigerants >2500 GWP are banned. Only reclaimed/recycled >2500 GWP allowed (new appliances). Reclaimed refrigerants with GWP <2500 can still be used for servicing and maintenance after 2032.
