Information about refrigerant R448A

R448A (commercially known as Solstice® N40) is very similar to R449A. It is an HFO-based blend developed as an efficient replacement for R404A and R507 refrigerants. R448A is a five-component blend (compared to four in R449A) and has a temperature glide of approximately 6 °C.

Refrigerant R448A overview

Typical applications of R448A:

  • Commercial refrigeration (e.g. central rack systems, freezer cabinets and display cases)
  • Industrial refrigeration (e.g. food industry cooling processes and large cold storage facilities)
  • Refrigerated transport (cooling systems for transport equipment and containers)

Additional information

2025–2029: Virgin refrigerants >2500 GWP are banned. Only reclaimed/recycled >2500 GWP allowed (new appliances). Reclaimed refrigerants with GWP <2500 can still be used for servicing and maintenance after 2032.
